Alta Fowler, 85, passed away peacefully at The Lodge at Mills River on September 18, 2015. She was born on September 19, 1929 to Columbus and Nannie Laughter of Valley Hill, now deceased. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Fowler; brothers, John, Quay and Roy Bush; and sister, Florence Laughter Thompson.

She is survived by her son, David W. Fowler and wife, Kay, of Mills River; granddaughter, Melanie Emory and husband, Phillip; great-grandchildren, Elisabeth, Abigail, Judah, Hannah and Mariah of Barnardsville; sister, Flossie Nelson of Hendersonville; and several nieces and nephews.

Melanie and the great- grandkids were the focus and source of joy in her later life and always brightened her day. On many occasions, she introduced daughter-in-law, Kay, as “her angel.” Although her health failed, she never lost her love of family and her home in Mills River.

A graveside service will be held at 2 pm Monday at the Mills River United Methodist Church, of which she was a member, with Pastor Ashley Crowder Stanley officiating. The family will be at the home of David Fowler, 290 South Mills River Rd., Mills River, NC.
