Alvan Wesley Pyne ìAlî, 80, of Bradenton, Fla. died, September 17, 2011 in Hendersonville, NC.

Born in Everett, Mass, he had lived in Melrose, Mass., Wayzata, Minnesota, Kinnelon, NJ, and Bradenton, Fla. He earned his PhD in Food Technology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and worked for General Mills, International Multifoods, Nabisco, and the Corn Products Corporation. He was a member of the Nazarene and Baptist churches and enjoyed music, singing, and sailing.

Surviving is his wife of 57 years Marie Evelyn Pyne; three sons Jeff Pyne and wife Michele of Little Rock, Arkansas, Wes Pyne and wife Rosa of Bend, Oregon, John Pyne and wife Tanya of Morristown, NJ; eight grandchildren, Andrea, Justin, Jason, Alex, Amanda, Patrick, Presley, and Petra; a sister Murl Parker and husband Pershing of Hamilton, Montana; and a brother Ronald Pyne and wife Ruth of Bradenton, Fla.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 21 in the chapel of Snelling Funeral Home, in Chesapeake, VA. Rev. John Copeland will officiate. Burial will follow in Chesapeake Memorial Gardens.

In lieu of flowers, contributions accepted for Compassionate Ministries, via Mud Creek Baptist Church, 403 Rutledge Drive, Hendersonville, NC 28739.
