Alys Sterling Poland died January 22, 2011. A native of Lakewood OH, she was the daughter of the late Evelyn and Milton Sterling.

A former resident of Redding, CT, she moved to Hendersonville in 1986. While in Connecticut, she sang for many years with the Yankee Maids, a Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus. Her chorus won a regional competition which allowed them to perform in London, England at the Royal Albert Hall.

Alys worked as a secretary for General Motors and for many years was a dental assistant in Lakewood. Locally, she volunteered with Welcome Wagon and the Opportunity House; she was a Pink Lady at Pardee Hospital, and she continued her love of singing as a long-time member of the Hendersonville Chorale. She was an Episcopalian and attended St. John in the Wilderness Church.

    Magallon Family says:
There will come a day when the tears of sorrow will softly flow into tears of remembrance...and your heart will begin healing itself...and grieving will be interrupted by episodes of joy...and you will hear the whisper of hope. There will come a day when you will welcome the tears of a sun shower of the soul...a turning of the tide...a promise of peace. There will come a day when you will...risk loving...go on believing...and treasure the tears of remembrance. I have fought the fine fight, I have run the course to the finish, I have observed the faith.-2Timothy 4:7. As for me, I will lie down that I may sleep; I shall certainly awake, for Jehovah himself keeps supporting me. -Psalms 3:5
