A former resident of Redding, CT, she moved to Hendersonville in 1986. While in Connecticut, she sang for many years with the Yankee Maids, a Sweet Adelines Barbershop Chorus. Her chorus won a regional competition which allowed them to perform in London, England at the Royal Albert Hall.
Alys worked as a secretary for General Motors and for many years was a dental assistant in Lakewood. Locally, she volunteered with Welcome Wagon and the Opportunity House; she was a Pink Lady at Pardee Hospital, and she continued her love of singing as a long-time member of the Hendersonville Chorale.
