Barbara Ann Carpenter, 77, of Hendersonville went home to be with her heavenly Father Monday, May 15, 2017 at the Laurels of Hendersonville.

Born in Sugar Valley, GA, she was a daughter of the late Daniel and Annie McCollum Nation.

She had lived in Henderson County for 50 years and was a member of Balfour Baptist Church. Barbara was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who was an artist and loved to travel.  She was very active in the community and with raising her sons.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Raymond Carpenter; sons, Phillip Carpenter (Kim) and Steven Carpenter, all of Hendersonville; grandchildren, Katie Fowler (Ross) of Savannah, GA; Nick Carpenter, Morgan Carpenter and William Carpenter, all of Hendersonville; sisters, Charlene Serritt of Sugar Valley, GA, Chris Goode, Susan Haley (Bud), all of Dalton, GA, and Edna Glancy (Albert) of Sugar Valley, GA; brother, Bud Nation (Jean) of Sugar Valley, GA; brother-in-law, Joe L. Carpenter (Molly) of GA; sister-in-law, Carolyn Tate of GA; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 11 am Friday, May 19, 2017 at Balfour Baptist Church.  The Reverend Joe Lund will officiate.  Burial will follow at Shepherd Memorial Park.  The family will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Balfour Baptist Church, 2502 Asheville Hwy., Hendersonville, NC 28791.
