Benjamin Franklin ìFrankî Crawford, 93 of Hendersonville, passed away on Friday, February 15, 2013 at Sunnybrook Assisted Living.
He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County; and was born on November 30, 1919 in Tuxedo, NC to the late Ella Bayne & Walter E. Crawford, Sr. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Imogene Crawford who died on May 15, 2007.
Frank served his country in the US Army during WWII from January 9, 1942 to November 7, 1944. He was wounded in combat in Italy in 1944, and was awarded a Purple Heart, and was honorably discharged the same year. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville for over 60 years, the Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post 5206, and the Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77 where he served as past Commander.
He is survived by a brother, C. William Crawford of Hendersonville; two sons, Donald W. Crawford and his wife Janice of Lilburn, GA and C. Eugene ìGeneî Crawford and his wife Pamela of Loganville, GA; four grandchildren, Erik Crawford and his wife Adrienne of Atlanta, GA, Michael Crawford and his wife Jessica of McDonough, GA, Heather Robinson of Lawrenceville, GA, and David Crawford and his wife Lauren of Atlanta, GA; five great grandchildren, Keleigh Robinson, Brook & Blake Crawford, and Owen & Emmerson Crawford; and numerous nieces & nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00AM on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Kirby Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with Rev. Wally Shamburger officiating. Interment will follow with military honors at Shepherd Memorial Park. The grandchildren will serve as honorary pallbearers. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
