Billy Wayne Wright, a native of Summerdale, AL, and a resident of Hendersonville, NC, for many years, was born on June 19, 1938, to the late Eva Driskell Wright and J.W. (Shorty) Wright and departed this life on June 28, 2013, at the age of 75 in Asheville, NC.

He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife of forty-eight years, Gloria Martinez Wright who he married August 14, 1960. He graduated from Foley High School, Foley AL, and attended Troy State University, Troy, AL, where he earned a BS degree. He served twenty-three years in the U.S. Army as a helicopter repairman. While in the Army, he served two tours in Viet Nam and was stationed in Germany, Ft. Knox, KY, Ft. Rucker, AL and Ft. Bliss, TX. Shortly after retiring from the Army in 1979, he moved his loving family to the mountains of NC. He began his second career with the U.S. Postal Service as a clerk in the Tryon, SC, office where he retired in 1998 after 24 years of service.

Before his death, he resided at the Emeritus at Pine Park assisted living facility in Hendersonville, NC. He was survived by one son, Marc Wright of Laguna Beach, CA; two daughters, Leeanne Wright (Randy) Gowens of Snellville, GA, and Julie Wright Smith of Brevard, NC; four sisters, Barbara Wright Pellegrino and Sandra Wright Black of Mobile, AL, Diane Wright Dombroski of Summerdale, AL, and Lynn Wright Morton of Chillicothe, OH; three grandchildren, Noah, Zachary and Brittany and several nieces and nephews.

Services with military honors for Mr. Wright will be held from the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at Black Mountain, NC on Tuesday, July 2, 2013, at 10:00 AM. Burial will follow the Services.     Dad...I wish you were still here, the last couple of days have not been easy, I still cant believe you are not here with us anymore...I am going to miss coming to see you, to take you out to eat, to talk to you on the phone and to reminisce about when I was growing up and you being in the army...but also seeing your smiling face when I would bring Paco to see you as well...but I am glad you are back with Granny and your dad and also with cousin Angie but most of all MOM...I am glad you are no longer suffering...I know we will be together again soon. will always LOVE you and MISS you...your little girl...Julie
