Bobby Daniel McCombs, 76, of Hendersonville, NC, died Wednesday, December 23, 2009 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Robert Caldwell McCombs and Lillie Laughter McCombs. He was also preceded in death by his wife of over fifty years, Katherine Dovie Dalton McCombs, and his daughter, Bobbie Annette McCombs.

He graduated from Etowah School and retired from military service with the US Marines and Navy. He owned and operated the Mountain Man Produce and was an active member of the local military honor guard.

He is survived by his loving family, his sons, Gregory McCombs and Richard ìBearî McCombs and wife, Traci, all of Hendersonville; his grandchildren, Trinity McCombs, Cassidy McCombs, Danielle McCombs, Janie McCombs and Jackie McCombs; and his great-granddaughter, Whitney McCombs.

A memorial service will be held at 1 PM Monday, December 28, 2009 at Calvary Baptist Church with Military Honors conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The Reverend Ken Mason will officiate. The family will receive friends from 5 ñ 7 PM Saturday, December 26, at Shuler Funeral Home.

    Bobby and Katherine were such special friends to me at a time when I needed it the most. They both just "took me in", and I will forever be grateful to them both. I miss them so - it's hard to drive by Mountain Man Produce now. I hope that it will stay open and live on in their memories. They are together niow, free of pain and sickness ans reunited with their daughter, whom they missed so much.

    Bobby will be missed dearly, I did not really know any of the McCombs until I rented from them in 1996. Bobby and Katherine were great to me and my kids. I got to know Greg,Trinity, & Cassidy and their family's. We know it will be hard with loosing Katherine not long ago and now Bobby but you will see them again and they are spending tome now with Bobby Annette.     To the McCombs Family, Kathrine and I were teenage friends. I moved to Oregon in '62, but when I visited N.C., we managed at some point to have a short visit.She and Bobby were very uplifting people. Sorry for the loss of Bobby.Prayers for your family
