Bruce James Arrowood, 80, of Flat Rock, died Saturday, February 15, 2014 at the Elizabeth House.

A native of Rutherford County, he was the son of the late Herbert & Lokie Arrowood. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Justin Arrowood. Bruce served in the US Army in the 63rd Engineer Battalion (Combat). He was a member of East Flat Rock Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. Bruce also worked for many years with General Electric and First Federal Savings & Loan.

He was a beloved member of the Henderson County community, with a wide range of friends, and enjoyed many activities throughout his life.

Bruce is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Gladys Arrowood; two sons, Kenny Arrowood and his wife Evon Anders and Michael Arrowood, all of Hendersonville; two granddaughters, Summer Arrowood of Nashville, TN and Holly Arrowood of Chapel Hill, NC; one brother, Donald Arrowood and his wife Betty; a sister Jerleen McEntire and her husband Jesse, all of Rutherfordton; and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18, 2014 at East Flat Rock First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be sent to The StoreHouse, 627 7th Avenue East, Hendersonville, NC 28792. The StoreHouse is a food and hygiene pantry that serves the basic necessities of the people in Henderson County.
