Gifts & Memorial Donations

Buddy Gibbs, 73, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord and his family on Sunday, November 12, 2017. He was a son of the late Harley A. (Bert) Gibbs, Sr. and Ruby Justus Hinson.

Buddy was a Vietnam veteran, having served four years in the United States Air Force. He was employed for many years with Southern Bell prior to becoming disabled with heart complications in 1976. Buddy received a heart transplant in 2000 and was extremely grateful to the donor for allowing him to meet and enjoy his grandsons for 17 additional years. He was an avid and active supporter of his wife, Judy, with her real estate business. Buddy was a member of Mud Creek Baptist Church, having served as a past Sunday school teacher of the Encounter Class, past deacon and past choir member. He loved his church and his Lord greatly. Buddy’s greatest joy in life was spending time with his family and friends camping.

He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Judy Gibbs; children, Mark Gibbs and his wife, Donna of Mills River and Christy Buckner and her husband, Roger of Mills River; grandsons, Jordan, Joshua, Jacob and Jeremiah Gibbs and Garrett Buckner; sisters, Joann Pace and her husband, Wayne of Dana, Shirley Drake and her husband, Chris of Hendersonville, and Susan Anderson and her husband, Larry of Hendersonville; brother, Steve Gibbs and his wife, Pam of Arden and numerous nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 15, 2017 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with military honors. A celebration of life will follow at 2pm at Mud Creek Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Greg Mathis and Rev. Dr. Robert Hefner officiating.

Buddy experienced a lifetime of suffering and even depression.  Because he had a heart for those who suffer, memorial contributions may be made to Clear Word Counseling Center, Client Assistance Program, 316 Erkwood Dr., Hendersonville, NC 28739.

The family would like to offer special thanks to Dr. James Caserio and Dr. Navin Anthony and Doug Guth, his caregiver, for their tender care for Buddy.

Judy and family. So sorry for your loss, but we know Buddy is with the Lord and completely healed. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Buddy was at one time our SS teacher, and was an excellent teacher.

    Glenda Arve says:
My sincere condolence to you Judy and all of Buddy's family. I want to be there for the services but for various reasons I cannot and I want you to know how much I regret that. I will always have a special love for Buddy. He visited me in California when he was in the Air Force and I lived there. My Mother Mary Ruth was close to Buddy's Mother when they all lived in Florida.
