Burnett Hayes ìBurnieî Russell, Jr. found his peace on April 25, 2015. He was born in Union, SC on July 31, 1971 to parents, Burnett H. Russell, Sr. of Hendersonville, NC and Lynn Allen Russell of Del Rio, TN.

Burnie was a business man, an entrepreneur and was blessed with a knack for numbers. However, more than the aforementioned labels, he was highly skilled in woodworking and a gifted carpenter. Burnie appreciated the little things in life which showed through his love of animals and nature. As a man of many talents and hobbies, he dabbled in playing the guitar and was well-read in classic literature and philosophy. Skill, talent and hobby came together in Burnie’s ability to manipulate words and for those who were close to him, that ability will not be quickly forgotten.

Burnie was a graduate of the Edneyville High School Class of 1989. He held a BSBA in Finance from Appalachian State University where he was a member of the Gamma Beta Phi Honors Society, Alpha Chi National Honors Scholarship Society, and Beta Gamma Sigma Business Honors Society. Over the course of his life, he also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the University of Oxford in the UK, the University of North Carolina at Asheville, East Carolina University, and had recently been offered a fellowship at Elon School of Law.

In addition to his parents, he is survived by his sister, Lisa Russell Nix and her husband Greg, and his nieces, Christen and Bryson Nix along with his extended family.

Burnie was surrounded by loving friends, especially ìthe guys,î who were as much a part of his family as his parents, sister, brother-in-law and nieces. Burnie was a caring son, loving brother, inspiring uncle and true friend. He will continue to be remembered and loved by many.

“Nature’s first green is gold,

Her hardest hue to hold.

Her early leaf’s a flower,

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf,

So Eden sank to grief.

So dawn goes down to day,

Nothing gold can stay.”

–Robert Frost

A graveside service will be held at 3 PM Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Edneyville United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mr. Larry Russell (Burnieís dear cousin) and the Reverend Walt Christian will officiate. The family will be at the home of Burnieís sister, Lisa Nix.
