Carnell Lee Laughter, 77, of Hendersonville stepped out into the loving arms of Jesus Saturday, August 13, 2011 after a period of declining health. He was born in Saluda to the late Andrew Logan and Eva Mae Pittman Laughter. He attended Saluda schools and served his country proudly in the United States Marine Corps.

He was a truck driver most of his life, working for Boren Brick and Cason Company for a number of years. He also served with the NC State DOT in Hendersonville and was proud of the contribution he made to the roads in Henderson County. He bowled with the APAC bowling team in the Wednesday night league at Tarheel Lanes for many years and played Senior softball with the Jackson Park league.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-three years, Judy Belcher Laughter; half-sister Della Cundy; half-brothers Alfred Laughter and Charles Broadus Laughter.

Survivors include two daughters, Doris Swann and friend Michael Dunn, Donna Corn and her husband Gary; companion of a decade, Linda Lamphier; grandchildren, Traci Corn of Hendersonville, Matthew Corn of Hendersonville, Danny Hyder and wife Laurie of St. Augustine, FL with great-grandchildren, Kacie and D.J., Stepahnie Bennett and her husband Kevin of Hendersonville with great-grandson, Manny; sister, Leona Thompson of Saluda; brother Thomas Laughter and his wife Marqueta of Saluda; numerous much-loved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A celebration of life will be at 3:00 pm Monday in the chapel of Forest Lawn Funeral Home. Rev. Blair Stewart of Zion Hill Baptist Church and Rev. Dale Holloway of Bob’s Creek Baptist Church will officiate. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Military rites will be conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post #77, Hedrick-Rhodes VFW Post #5206, and DAV Chapter 14. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm Sunday at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, and at other times will be at the home Stephanie and Kevin Bennett.

Memorials may be made to Zion Hill Baptist Church, Bob’s Creek Baptist Church, or Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
