Catherine “Cathy” Hillen, 72 of Zirconia went to be with the Lord Monday morning, September 26, 2011 at the Elizabeth House following an extended illness. A native of Liverpool, England, she was a daughter of the late William and Esther Moore. A longtime resident of New York, she retired to Henderson County ten years ago.

Prior to her retirement in 2001, she was involved in acquisitions and purchasing for Climatronics and ERA for 40 years. She had been a part-time cashier for Wal-Mart for the last 10 years.

She was a member of Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church.

A beautiful wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she is survived by her husband of 52 years, Anthony P. Hillen; her children Micheal Hillen and wife Nellie, Catherine Schinella and husband David, and Anne Merkes and husband Carl; grandchildren Sean Schinella, Patrick “PJ” Schinella, Amanda Thomas, Anthony Hillen, Cody Merkes, and Sierra Merkes; great-grandchild Logan Tyler Thomas; sisters Mary Moore and husband Norman, Sadie Strong and husband Jack, and Julie Mullholland; brothers William Moore and wife Sylvia and Thomas Moore and wife Kaye; beloved dogs, Tank, Ripper, and Roo; as well as the extended family on both sides of the Atlantic.

A Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, September 28, 2011at Immaculate Conception Roman Catholic Church. The Reverend Nicholas Mormando, OFM CAP. will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 PM Tuesday evening, September 27, 2011 at Shuler Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Immaculate Conception Church, 208 7th Avenue West, Hendersonville, NC 28791 or Four Seasons Compassion for Life (Elizabeth House), 571 South Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

    I worked with Cathy at Walmart. Just seeing her across the room made me smile. Always a joy to speak with. I remember her saying 'have a wonderful day', and meaning it. She will be sorely missed by me. May God bless her family and friends at this time.
