Charles David Ponder, 48, of Hendersonville, NC, died Saturday, November 15, 2008 at Pardee Memorial Hospital.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of Myrtle Thompson Ponder of Hendersonville and the late Charles Preston Ponder.
He was a member of the US Army Reserve from 1978-1992. He worked for the NCDMV Enforcement from 1987 to 1996. He owned CRC Lawn and Grounds Care. He was a member of Dana Baptist Church and attended Mud Creek Baptist Church. He was a member of the Saluda Masonic Lodge.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Rita Corn Ponder of Hendersonville; a daughter, Cassandra Ponder of Hendersonville and grandson, Isaiah Charles; his brother, Dale Ponder of Asheville; his aunt and her husband, Hazel and Stoney Browning; his uncle and his wife, Hubert & Margaret Thompson, all of Hendersonville; mother- and father-in-law, Alice Corn and Millard C. Corn, Sr. of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Betty Jean Brown, and brother-in-law, Millard Corn, Jr., and wife, Beth, all of Hendersonville; first cousins, Kenneth Burrell and wife, June, and Jean Thompson of Hendersonville; double first cousins, Ferman Ponder and wife, Wilma; Ronnie Ponder and wife, Sandy; Phillip Ponder and wife, Wanda; and Charles Ballard and wife, Kay; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, November 22, 2008 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Reverends Mark Hunnicutt and Alvin Melton will officiate. Masonic Rites will be conducted by the Saluda Masonic Lodge #482 AF & AM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Rites conducted by Hubert M. Smith American Legion Post 77, Hedrick-Rhodes Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 5206, and Disabled American Veterans Chapter 14. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
Charles wanted to advise his family and friends to keep good memories of things we shared in life, to move on with life, and we will meet again one day in heaven.
