Christopher Brett Corn, 44, of Hendersonville passed away Saturday, December 2, 2017.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, Brett was a son of Richard Michael Corn of Hendersonville and the late Janice Meis Corn. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Kevin Corn.

Brett graduated from West Henderson High School in 1992 and from A-B Tech as a Paramedic. For a brief time, he worked for Watauga County EMS before joining Henderson County EMS in 1995. Brett was a lifetime member of the Henderson County Rescue Squad, which he joined in 1990 and active with Wolf Laurel Ski Patrol. He was trained in swift water rescue and technical rescue as well as being a dive master. Brett enjoyed scuba diving, hunting, fishing and snow skiing, all of which he was teaching his daughters. There was nothing he could not take on and accomplish with expertise. He was one of the most humble and talented men to step foot on this earth and because of him the world was a better place for so many people. Brett was everyone’s rock and he had a heart that very few people truly knew. Brett was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church.

In addition to his father, he is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Ashley Johnson Corn; his daughters, Avery Christine and Lily Katherine Corn; his son, Andrew Gosnell; three sisters who adored him; Cindy King and her husband Steve of Troy, Cheryl Bell and her husband Tim and Brenda Sheldrick and her husband Paul, all of Hendersonville; a multitude of beloved nieces and nephews; and endless extended family and friends.

A Funeral will be held at 10 AM Friday, December 8, 2017 at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Fr. Martin Schratz will officiate. Burial will follow the service at Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Thursday evening from 5pm until 8pm at Forest Lawn Funeral Home.

I am so sorry to hear of this heartbreaking news. Brett was like my little brother. I have just been flooded with memories this week of our childhood, from riding our bikes, climbing trees and playing in creeks! The Corn family will be in my prayers during this difficult time. Love to you all.

    Marie says:
My heart goes out with deepest sympathy to the Corn family. God knows the many tears you shed and he wants to sustain you. In the Bible at 2 Corinthians 4:7 it says that God can give us, "... power beyond what is normal," to go from one day to the next. This does not mean that we no longer cry or that we forget, but it means we recover. We can recover because of our hope. When Jesus was on earth he saw the grief that his friends Martha and Mary experienced at the death of their brother, Lazarus, the Bible says, “Jesus cried,” (John 11:35). Afterwards, he resurrected Lazarus. Everyone was so joyful at having Lazarus back with them. Jesus Christ talked about our hope in John 5:28, "... all those in the memorial tomb will hear his voice and come out." Jesus was referring to the resurrection. This is our amazing hope that anchors us. Just like an anchor stabilizes a ship, our hope stabilizes us, keeps us from drowning in overwhelming sadness so we can go from one day to the next. It helps us recover and have the power to go on. Not only does God provide the Bible to comfort, he will also comfort you by moving people who care about you to give you help and words of encouragement that you need to hear. When he brings the reality of his promised resurrection, all your tears of pain will be replaced with tears of joy.
