Clarence T. Ekstrom, 95, of Hendersonville went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Carolina Village Medical Center. A native of Chicago, IL, he had resided in Henderson County for 37 years. He was a son of the late Nels and Otilia Anderson Ekstrom. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Lois Ekstrom in 2009; infant daughter, Diane Ekstrom; grandson, Eric T. Stricker, granddaughter, Janene Shaw, brothers Augie, Eddie and Harry, and sister Gladys Kubalunis.

He is survived by his daughters, Carol Lee Stricker of Chicago, IL and Judith Ann Shaw and her husband Bill of Russellville, AR; son, Paul C. Ekstrom and his wife Lori of Bloomfield Hills, MI; grandchildren, Ryan Stricker, Russell Shaw and Elizabeth Ekstrom, sisters Grace Sward and Edna Dickey, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Clarence received a BS in architectural and structural engineering from the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana. He was employed for many years as a project manager and structural engineer for James McHugh Construction in Chicago. While there, he was the project manager for the famed Marina City.

He served the country as a member of the Navy during WWII and was honorably discharged following his service. Clarence was a member of First Baptist Church Hendersonville where he served as a Sunday School teacher for the two and three year olds for over 22 years. He loved to garden and play golf. Clarence always put God and family first and yet he was extremely successful in business. He and his late wife were able to see much of the World during their years of traveling.

A memorial service with military honors will be held at 2pm on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in the chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Reverend Steve Scoggins will officiate. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service from 1-2pm.  A reception will be held at Carolina Village following the service.
