Willard Dale Lappin, 88, of Flat Rock passed away Monday, January 2, 2017 in his home.
Born in Canton, Ohio, he was a son of the late Ira Willard and Laura McIntire Lappin. He was preceded in death by his brother, Jack Lappin.
A US Army veteran, Dale served in the Korean War. He was a graduate of Marion College and received his Master’s degree from Indiana University. Dale enjoyed teaching art and French for 30 years at East Flat Rock and Hendersonville High Schools. Dale took many students to France, sharing his love of the French language, culture, and people. He was a member of Bethel Wesleyan Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Julia Justus Lappin; his daughters, Heidi Upton and husband, Nathan, of Flat Rock and Jill Loggins and husband, Dan, of High Point; sister, Carol Koons and husband, Dave, of Kissimmee, FL; six grandchildren, Tyler Upton (Alex), Peter Upton (Amy Sue), Daniel Loggins (Emily), Sarah Upton, Katie Upton, and Elijah Loggins; and his great-granddaughter, Afton Upton.
A Celebration of Life service will be held at 12 pm Thursday, January 5, 2017 at Bethel Wesleyan Church with the Reverend Tim Clark officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
