Dan ìDannyî D. Toney, 57, of Hendersonville, NC, died Wednesday, January 6, 2010 at his home.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of Dorothy Jean Fortner Toney of Hendersonville and the late William D. ìBudî Toney, who died April of last year..
He was a 1970 graduate of East Henderson High School and worked with his father in the grading business. He also worked for Wellington Puritan Mills in shipping and receiving for 7 years and for PSNC Energy for 16 years. He loved camping and all outdoor activities. He was a member of Horse Shoe First Baptist Church and attended the Open Door Christian Fellowship.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his former wife of 22 years, Tonya Toney of Hendersonville; three children, Stephanie (Dale) Massey of Dana; Kimberly Toney and her fiancÈ, Terry Sides, of Zirconia; and Justin Toney of Hendersonville; sister, Wanda Gayle (Paul) Shipman of Tryon; brothers, Roger Toney of Hendersonville, and Neal (Camilla) Toney of Florence, AL; grandchildren, Troy Jackson, Kristina Jackson, Cameron Massey, Kayla Toney, and Carter Toney, and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 11 AM Saturday, January 9, 2010 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Oak Forest Cemetery in Etowah. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. At other times, the family will be at the home of his brother, Roger.
