David Ivory Ballard

Gifts & Memorial Donations

David Ivory Ballard of Hendersonville, NC went to be with The Lord Monday, December 31, 2012 following a brief stay at the Elizabeth House.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Henderson County and was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Betty Ann Ballard, who passed away in 2005; his parents, Ivory and Nettie Ballard; brother, Arthur Ballard; father-in-law, Lige Franklin; nephews, Keith Edmundson and John Ballard; great-nephews, Matthew and Eric Mahaffey; and many other treasured friends and family members that awaited him in Heaven.

He was a retired textile worker with Kimberly Clark and farmed for many years. He enjoyed flea markets, bluegrass and gospel music, WGCR Radio, and reading his Bible. His faith gave him strength through many years of loneliness as he continued to profoundly miss his wife and through many serious struggles with his health. He often said that he just took one day at a time and tried to always trust in the Lord, who knew best for him.

He is survived by his daughter, Marie Ballard-Anders and her husband, Nicholas Anders, of Hendersonville, and his son, David Mark Ballard of Asheville; his brother, Harvey Ballard and wife, Pat, of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Ruth Ballard of Hendersonville; mother-in-law, Naomi Franklin of Mills River; and the following brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Lewis and Nola Franklin of Hoopers Creek, John and Carolyn Edmundson of Mills River, David and Peggy Franklin of Hendersonville, and Johnny and Carolyn Franklin of Hendersonville. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, friends, caregivers, and others to fondly remember him.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Saturday, December 5, 2013 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with the Rev. Tommy Owen officiating. Burial will follow at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 12:30-2:00 PM Saturday at the funeral home before the service.

Nick and Marie Anders would like to personally thank the staff members of Pardee Hospital and Hospice who extended such gentle and kind care to Pop in the last few days of his life. We are also grateful to numerous caregivers and staff at Pine Park Assisted Living and Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation who took the time to do more than just their job during the last year of Dadís life. For every smile and kindness shared with Daddy, thank you so much. Thank you, as well, to special friends Tommy and Ruby Taylor who took the time to visit.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to any worthy Animal Rescue Organization, Hospice, or WGCR. Daddy always liked to say ìLittle Is Much If God Is In It.î

An online register book is available for family and friends by visiting shulerfuneralhome.com. Condolence cards may also be sent to Nick and Marie Anders, 350 Stoney Mtn., Rd., Hendersonville, NC 28792.

Shuler Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
