Donald A. Owens, Sr., 66, of Mills River, died Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Charles George VA Medical Center.

He was a native of Transylvania County, he was a son of the late Freeman and Edna Long Owens. He is also preceded in death by a brother, Freeman Owens, Jr. He had lived in Buncombe County for 25 years prior to moving to Mills River 10 years ago.He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. Donald was superintendant for commerical construction companies who’s projects included the Charles George VA Medical Center and Park Ridge Hospital. An avid outdoorsman, he loved to hunt and fish.

Mr. Owens is survived by his daughter and son-in-law, Angie and Rodney Clark of Hendersonville; his son, Donnie Owens, Jr. and daughter-in-law Jessie of LaPorte City, Iowa;three sisters, Grace Hoxit, Effie Corn and Alivee Walker; three brothers, Lester, Howard and Charles Owens; three grandchildren, Jazmyne and Georgia Owens and Morgan Archer and many nieces and nephews.

A graveside service will be held 1:00p.m., Friday, August 12,2011 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Charles George VA Medical Center 1100 Tunnel Road, Asheville, NC 28805.
