Donald Ross Miner, 85 of Hendersonville, died Friday, May 7, 2010 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. A native of Pennsylvania, he was a son of the late Reverend F. Theodore Miner and Marian Potts Miner. He was a longtime resident of upstate New York prior to moving to Hendersonville in 1992. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother Paul W. Miner.

A US Navy veteran of WWII, he was a graduate of the University of New Hampshire where he earned his bachelorís degree in Mechanical Engineering. He was employed by Texaco and Xerox before building and operating his own KOA campground in Upstate NY.

He was a member of Balfour United Methodist Church, taking an active role in such groups as the United Methodist Men, The Bread Ministry, and The Drama Ministry. He was also a longtime volunteer for Meals-on-Wheels.

Surviving are his wife of 56 years, Olive Vermilyea Miner; two daughters, Donna J. Cavelli and her husband William of Kannapolis and Clare J. Miner of Cohoes, New York; two grandsons, Michael Rice and Marc Rice; two brothers, David R. Miner of Vermont and Norman H. Miner of South Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 3 PM Sunday, May 30, 2010 at Balfour United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Prichard will officiate. Military Honors will be conducted. Memorials may be made to The Bread Ministry or The Backpack Ministry of Balfour United Methodist Church, 2567 Asheville Highway, Hendersonville, NC 28791.
