Dorothy Burns ìDotî Layne, 81, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord and many family and friends that had went on before her Friday evening, December 2, 2011 at the Elizabeth House following an extended illness.

Born in Cedar Mountain, NC, she was a daughter of the late Harley and Carrie Burns. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Eldred Burns.

Dot had resided in Hendersonville for 53 years. She worked at Ecusta Mills for 22 years before she became involved in early childhood development at the Hendersonville School for Little Folks, where she was affectionately known as ìMiss Dot.î

Dot was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed working on puzzles and singing while playing the piano. She was a wonderful lady that will be missed by many. She will be forever remembered as a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.

She is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, George Bruce Layne; three children, Terry Layne and wife, Laurie, Janet McGuinn and husband, Mike, and Joy Thompson and husband, Jerry; four grandchildren, Jason, Terah, Sarah, and Michael; seven great-grandchildren; a sister, Ruth Whitson and husband, Jack; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A Funeral Service will be held at 2 PM Tuesday, December 6, 2011 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home with the Reverend Mike Whitson officiating. Interment will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 ñ 8 PM Monday, December 5 at the funeral home. At other times, they will be at the home.

    So sorry to hear about Dot. She was a very sweet person. I worked with Dot at little folks she was a great teacher. She also let me and my husband live in her apartment above her grage till we could get another place. Great lady she will be missed.
