Edmund Alex Duszak, 94, of Columbus died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at the Life Care Center at Lake Pointe Landing, Hendersonville, NC. Ed was born November 4, 1922 in Chicago IL, son of the late Alexander and Mary Orlowski Duszak. He was preceded in death by his brother, Edward, his sister Emily Kramarczyk, and his daughter Valerie Kay Duszak McDonough.
Ed attended Lane Tech High school followed by North Park College where he met his future wife. He also graduated from Northwestern University. He served in the United States Marine Corps during WWII. He married Beverly Johnson on September 30, 1944 in Chicago IL. His career in the Railroad system spanned over 40 years. He worked for the Milwaukee Railroad, the New York and New Jersey Port Authority and he served as the general manager of the Staten Island Rapid Transit Operating Authority until his retirement in 1983. Ed was an active member of the Mt. Pisgah Lutheran Church. He enjoyed traveling, bowling and was an avid golfer. He loved to read and watch sports, especially baseball. He was a lifelong Chicago Cubs fan.
He is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Beverly Johnson Duszak; three grandchildren, Pamela Bender (Gary), Lt.Cdr. Matthew McDonough (Lindsay), and Keith McDonough; two great grandchildren, Cooper Bender and Jacob McDonough and a niece Barbara Pukszta.
A memorial service to celebrate Ed’s life will be held on December 17, 2016 at 2PM at the Mt. Pisgah Church, 2606 Chimney Rock Road, Hendersonville, NC 28792. The family would like to thank the staff of the Life Care Center at Lake Pointe Landing for their care and dedication. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Mt.
