Edward Hugh “Clifford” Osteen, 77, of East Flat Rock went to Heaven Tuesday, September 4, 2018 from St. Joseph’s Campus of Mission Hospitals.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Edward “Teat” and Mildred Hester McCrary Osteen and brother of the late Beulah Simms.
Clifford was a graduate of Western Carolina University with a degree in engineering. He was a US Army veteran, serving from 1958-1966 in Germany where he met his wife and started his family. He was an engineer for Square D, Inc. for 18 years and for Kyocera Ceramics for 16 years. Clifford, a strong believer in the Ten Commandments, was of the Baptist faith.
He loved animals, especially his dogs. He was an avid trout fisherman and gardener and was considered to be a tomato and okra expert. Clifford enjoyed going out to eat and loved his patio dinners with his son, Martin, and Kim.
He is survived by his son, Edward Martin Osteen and his fiancée, Kimberly Ann Kightlinger, of East Flat Rock; daughter, Elisabeth Burgess of N. Myrtle Beach, SC; two granddaughters, Ashley Gabrielle Burgess of Blacksburg, SC and Priscilla Budinski of Shelby; and two grandsons, Anthony Michael Warren of Lancaster, SC, and Joshua Allen Warren of Hendersonville. Clifford was blessed with cousins whom he loved as brothers and sisters, Glenn Hill and wife, Vivian; Evelyn Nichols and husband, Norman; Faye brown and husband, Earl; and Danny Ward, husband of the late Mary Lee Hill Ward.
A graveside memorial service with military honors will be held at 4:00 pm Saturday, September 8, 2018 at Beulah Baptist Church Cemetery with the Reverend Steve Scoggins officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Shriner’s Hospitals for Children, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
