Estel W. Westbrook, 84, of Hebron Rd., Hendersonville, died Friday, July 17, at the Elizabeth House. A native of Grant, Michigan, he was a son of the late Harvey and Anna Westbrook and attended Grant High School. He served in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard during WW II. Before moving to Hendersonville he retired from San Mold Systems of Newaygo Mi.He has been a resident of Hendersonville since 1987 and was an assistant at Crooked Creek Golf Course. He was a life member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Cooties. Estel was also a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

Mr. Westbrook is survived by his wife of 64 years, Barbara Westbrook; four children, Sally A. Deems and her husband Robert of Ravenna, MI, Terry E. Westbrook and his wife Bonnie of Grand Rapids, MI, Diana K. Merritt and her husband Dennis of Pierson, MI and Peggy L. Carver and her husband Steve of Balsam, NC; his brother, Willis John Westbrook currently living in Florida; ten grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Monday, July 20, at Calvary Baptist Church. Rev. Ken Mason will officiate. The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 9:00 PM Sunday, July 19, at Shuler Funeral Home. Memorial contributions may be made to Four Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care Elizabeth House, 571 S. Allen Rd., Flat Rock, NC 28731.

    Estel and Barb have been wonderful to me and my family since my grandmother introduced us to them. They were there for us when my grandmother died, and I love them for that. Estel is in a better place, and I'll be praying for Barb, and the rest of the family.
