Gene “Pete” McMinn, Sr.

Gene ìPeteî McMinn, Sr., 77, of Hendersonville went to be with the Lord Wednesday, July 16, 2014 at the Elizabeth House in Flat Rock.

A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late Andy and Ada Mae McMinn and husband of Thelma Jones McMinn who passed away in 2001. He was also preceded in death by his son, Raymond McMinn and brother, Jack Smith.

Pete was well-known as a devoted family man and a fixture in the community. He loved the mountains, especially taking his family on picnics, and enjoyed landscaping his yard. He was employed by Moland Drysdale and attended Valley Hill Baptist Church.

Pete is survived by his children, Gene McMinn, Jr. and wife, Margie, of Hendersonville; Bill McMinn and wife, Tracey, of Rutherfordton; Marilyn Hoxit and husband, Mike, of Etowah; Eva Justice and husband, Gary, of Brevard; Barbara McMinn Griffin and Penny Taylor and her husband, Ross, all of Hendersonville; his brother, Jim McMinn of Maggie Valley; eleven grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 12 PM Saturday at Valley Hill Baptist Church with the Reverends Jimmy Owens and Bill Landreth officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.
