George Arthur Westbrook, 87, of Hendersonville, died Wednesday, January 15, 2014. He was born in Jamaica, Long Island, NY and had served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as an Aviator Cadet. He graduated from Tusculum College in Greeneville, TN where he met and married Evelyn Tripp from Beacon, NY. He was a chemist at American Cyanamid Lederle Laboratories in Pearl River, NY. He and his wife raised three boys there. He was past master of the Masonic Lodge and a life member of the Hook and Ladder Fire Department in Pearl River. He earned his Master of Business Administration degree from Fairleigh Dickinson University in Madison, NJ and retired as Director of Administration from Champion Paper Co. After retirement, he and his wife moved to Surf City, Long Beach Island, New Jersey. He served as treasurer and senior warden of St. Peterís Episcopal Church at Barnegat Light, NJ. He and his wife then moved to Stuart, FL prior to settling in Hendersonville in 1999.
Mr. Westbrook is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evelyn; three sons, James of Boynton Beach, FL, Thomas of Indianola, IA and William of Mill River and their families. A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of oneís choice.
