Gertrude Lamb, 90, of Hendersonville passed away Sunday, April 19, 2015 at Hendersonville Health and Rehab. She was born on February 13, 1925 in Youngstown, Ohio to the late Myrtle and James Peebles. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Gererd ìBudî Cline Peebles and brother-in-law, Lamott Dermott. Growing up in upstate NY, she graduated from Johnstown High School in 1940. Following graduation, she took a business course and worked for several years as a bookkeeper, office manager and later the secretary/treasurer of the company.
She was married to Everett Lamb on August 19, 1950. Everett spent two years in the Army, stationed most of that time in Germany where Gertrude joined him. In 1958, they moved to Schenectady, NY. She volunteered with the Schenectady Red Cross office and was also a member of the Schenectady County Home Bureau where she taught sewing, crafts and cooking for many years. Gertrude was very active in church and taught Sunday school for most of her adult life. She also served as Director of Christian Education for many years.
Gertrude and Everett moved to Hendersonville, NC in 1996. She was a member of Hendersonville Presbyterian Church and very active in the Womenís Group.
Survivors include her loving husband of 64 years, Everett Lamb; son, Paul Lamb and daughter, Sheryl Lamb, both of NY; grandchildren, Angela, David, Danielle and Stepfanie; several great-grandchildren; sisters, Katherine Dermott of NY, Shirley Lamb and husband, George, of Hendersonville; sister-in-law, Rosita Peebles of TX; special nephews, Philip and Stephen Lamb; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday at Hendersonville Presbyterian Church. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall.
