Gilbert “Bud” Demarest, 92, of Hendersonville passed away on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Elizabeth House following a period of declining health. A native of Hackensack, NJ, he had resided in Henderson County since 1997, and was a son of the late Frank and Edna Decker Demarest. He was also preceded in death by his brothers, Rev. William C. and Frank Demarest and grandson Tim Demarest.
Bud was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII, and was of the Baptist faith. He retired from the Weston, Conn Public Schools having served 27 years as a P.E. and health director, as well as coach for baseball, soccer, and wrestling.
He is survived by his loving wife, Nancy; son, Scott Wayne Demarest; daughter, Wendy Demarest; step-sons, David, John and Glenn Wright; grandson, Drew Demarest; niece, Jill Rotrekl and nephew, Kenneth Demarest.
A memorial service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Fruitland Baptist Church with Dr. Michael Smith and Rev. Kemuel Pruitt officiating.
