Grady ìJerryî Cox, 67 of Etowah passed away Wednesday, August 12, 2015 at the Elizabeth House.
A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of Edna Cox Allison of Horse Shoe and the late Grady L. Cox. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Allan Cox, a sister, Audrey Steele, stepfather, Melvin Allison, mother-in-law, Martha Souther, and his special fishing buddy, D.C. Cantrell.
Jerry served four years with three tours in Vietnam with the US Navy and retired from Berkeley Mills after 36 years of employment. He was a lifetime awarded member of the Etowah Lions Club and was on the Board of Directors for the Marjorie McCune Memorial Center in Black Mountain. He enjoyed being outdoors and especially liked camping, fishing, and cutting wood.
Nothing pleased him more than being with family, especially the picnics at Brian and Marqueís with family and friends. He had a special love for each of his granddaughters and was so proud of all of their accomplishments.
In addition to his mother, Jerry leaves behind his loving wife of 46 years, Barbara Cox; daughter, Shelley Cox and Justin Crum of Hendersonville; son, Brian Cox and wife, Marque of Etowah; four granddaughters, Allison Earley and fiancÈ, Dustin Yingst, Katelyn Earley, Maggie Cox and Josie Cox; three sisters, Irene Barnwell and husband, Billy of Hendersonville, Carol Moore and husband, Gene of Mills River, and Melva Dye and husband, Charles of Baton Rouge, LA; father-in-law, Tommy Souther of Mills River; many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
