Gussie Beasley Parks, 75, of Hendersonville passed away Monday, October 3, 2011, at Pardee Memorial Hospital after an extended illness.

Born in Tryon, NC, she was the daughter of the late James and Earline Beasley Patterson and wife of the late Pearson Parks, who died in 1956. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Regina Parks Robinson, two brothers and two sisters. She lived most of her life in Henderson County and was a member of the Star of Bethel Baptist Church.

She is survived by her sons, Pierce Parks, Jr. and wife, Sylvia, of Hendersonville; David Parks and wife, Loretta, of Greenville, SC; Donnie Parks and wife, Theresa, of Fletcher; Ronnie Parks of Clear Creek; Darryl Parks of Asheville; and Darrette Travis and wife, Shannon, of Charlotte; daughters, Valeria T. Parks of Hendersonville; Denise Saunders of Greenville, SC; Jonie B. Parks of Hendersonville; Lula Robinson and husband, James of Spartanburg, SC; and Edith Lasiter of Atlanta, GA; sister, Ilien Hill and husband, Bobby Hill, Jr., of Hendersonville; twenty-four grandchildren; thirty-three great-grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 2 PM Friday, October 7, 2011, at the Star of Bethel Baptist Church. The Reverend C.E. Rowe will officiate. Burial will follow at Oakdale Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.

    I met Miss Gussie years ago when she was a housekeeper for a home health pt I took care of. The family adored her, and so did I. She was a good cook, and so pleasant to be around. She will be missed.
