Harold (Hal) LeRoy Brooks, 87, of Hendersonville, went home to be with the Lord on November 16th, 2016.
Born in LaGrange, IL, Hal was the son of the late Willard and Minnie Ellingson Brooks. He was also preceded in death by his son, Glenn Brooks; brother, Paul Brooks; and brother-in-law, Bill Early.
He served our country in the Navy as a carrier fighter pilot during the Korean War. Hal earned electrical engineering undergraduate and graduate degrees at Purdue University and enjoyed an extensive career, ranging from Chief Engineer and Plant Manager for Square D Company to VP and General Manager for Johnson Control’s manufacturing division. From 1987 until 1994, he, along with his wife, owned a Christian bookstore (Lemstone Books) in Greensboro. Hal was a member of First Baptist Church of Hendersonville and Wes Jensen’s Sunday school class. A devoted student and teacher of the Bible, he witnessed for Christ until the day he left to be with his Lord. He was a loving father, husband and friend to many. Hal had a volunteer’s heart and gladly served his church and community in countless opportunities throughout the years.
He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years, Joan Kuhny Brooks; his son, David Brooks and wife, Ashley, of Seattle, WA; his daughters, Donna Lanning and husband, Jesse, of Fletcher, NC and Paula Brooks and husband, Kevin Stone of Aurora, CO; brother, Philip Brooks and wife, Ann, of Moraga, CA; sister, Karen Brooks of McHenry, IL; brother-in-law, Robert Kuhny of Bonita Springs, FL; sister-in-law, Jean Brooks of Bloomington, IL; daughter-in-law, Vincenza Brooks of Las Vegas, NV; two cousins, Betty Moeller of Knoxville and Don Brooks of Erie, IL; three grandchildren, Kayla Brooks of Seattle, WA, Jeremiah and Colby Lanning of Fletcher, NC; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Hal’s life will be held at the chapel of the First Baptist Church of Hendersonville on Saturday, November 19, 2016. Visitation will be held at 1:00 and the service will begin at 2:00. Pastor Steve Scoggins will officiate. The graveside service will be private.
