Harold Byers Dent, 75, of Mills River died Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at the Brian Health and Rehabilitation Center in Hendersonville.

He was born in Reidsville and raised in Hendersonville where he attended Hendersonville High School. He was the son of the late Helen and Joe Byers, Sr. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Joe Byers, Jr.

A Navy veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served as a medic on the USS Sigourney. He was a Physiciansí Assistant in the field of nuclear medicine and dialysis and later retired from the Department of Corrections in Colorado.

Harold is survived by his loving wife of 22 years, Patricia Hicks Dent of Mills River; his son, Harold Dent, Jr. of West Virginia; one sister, Becky Byers Hayes of Hendersonville; and two brothers, Jim Byers of Hiram, GA, and Phillip Byers of St. Pete, FL.

A memorial graveside service with military honors will be held at 10 am Saturday, April 10, 2010 at Oakdale Cemetery. The Reverend Andy Craver will officiate.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Four Seasons Compassion for Life, 571 S. Allen Road, Flat Rock, NC 28731.

    As yungsters Harold and I were the closest of friends and I still cherish the memory of those happy times together. After graduation from HHS in 1953 we lost touch, going our separate ways. My sincere condolences to surviving members of his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
