Gifts & Memorial Donations

Hazel W. Munson, just four days before turning 101, went home to be with the Lord on April 24, 2010. She was a resident of Hendersonville Health and Rehabilitation Center in Flat Rock for the past three years.

Hazel’s husband passed away 33 years ago on Long Island, and she is survived by her only son, Gregory Munson and wife Marilyn, three grandchildren located in Virginia, California and Illinois, and 3 great grandchildren. She was born on a farm near Albany, NY, and lived most of her life on Long Island before moving to Hendersonville seventeen years ago. After five years in Hendersonville, Hazel moved to College Walk in Brevard for nine years. She was a member of the First Congregational Church of Hendersonville.

During her lifetime she became a master gardener, active in the Garden Club and an authority and teacher of Early American decorative art. Hazel began a prolific painting career in her 80s mastering water color, oil, mixed media and in her 90s concentrated on acrylic paintings. During her later years she won several awards in the Senior Olympics art competitions. She had a full and active life of art and activities until she was 98.

A private family memorial service is planned with interment on Long Island, New York.
