Henry B. Thatcher, 79, of Hendersonville, NC died Thursday, December 18 at his home. A native of Ticonderoga, NY, he moved to New Bern, NC in 1965 and had lived there for over 30 years prior to moving to Henderson County. He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and in the U.S. Navy in Vietnam. He was a Production Controller for the Cherry Point Naval Rework Station and had also been employed as a Craven County Airport Security Guard and Special Deputy with the Craven County Sheriffís dept. Target shooting was one of his favorite hobbies. A faithful Christian, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Carolyn Jones Thatcher, who died in 2002 and a son, Robert Stephen Thatcher who died July 26, 2014. Mr. Thatcher is survived by his daughter, Deborah T. Waddell and her husband David of Etowah; four grandchildren, William Brinkley, Nicholas Shawn Miller, Kaylyn Brooke Taylor and David Waddell, Jr.; six great-grandchildren, William Brinkley, Jr., Aubrey Taylor, Madison Taylor, Alexis Miller, Courtney Brinkley and Aaron Taylor, Jr. A memorial service will be held in New Bern at a later date.
