Elder Herman E. Davis Sr., 87, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, March 16, 2008, at the Elizabeth House of Four Seasons Hospice.
Born in Greenville, SC and a graduate of Parker High School, he earned his B.A. in Theology from Washington Missionary College (now Columbia Union College) and his Master’s in Theology from the seminary.
He served as a Seventh-day Adventist minister for 54 years. He began his work in Panama City, FL and shortly after, he and his wife served an 11 year term as missionaries in Ethiopia, Africa. For 36 of the 54 years, he worked in the Carolina Conference pastoring churches in Charleston, Charlotte and Asheville. He served in the administration of the Carolina Conference in various departments, and prior to his retirement was an assistant to the president. As a governor appointee, he completed a ten-year term on the Board of Trustees for the Blue Ridge Community College.
Surviving are his wife of 64 years, Mary Sue Mullinax Davis; a son, H Eugene Davis (Gene), of Tampa, Fl; three daughters, Mary Jo (Joie) of Silver Spring, MD, Suzette Ray of San Diego, CA, and Suzanne Hayes of Chattanooga, TN; a sister, Eleanor Ballenger; two brothers, Willard Davis and Henry Davis; two half-sisters, Sarah Ann Nack and Eugenia Carpenter; and six grandchildren include Chrissy Barrett of Orlando, FL, Jessica and Geoff Davis of Tampa, and Veronica, Thomas and William Hayes of Chattanooga, TN.
A memorial service will be held at 3:30 PM, Saturday, March 22 at Fletcher Seventh-Day Adventist Church. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
