Hjordis P. Lewis, 90
Jordy Lewis of Hendersonville went very peacefully to be with the Lord on January 31, 2013 at the age of 90. She has been a resident of Hendersonville Since 1982. She passed away at the medical center of Carolina Village having received extremely loving care there. Born in Christiansan, Norway, she immigrated to the United States with her parents and four siblings, arriving near Minneapolis. Following the death of her mother at age seven and the death of her father at age eleven, she moved to Seattle to live with relatives and grew up there. She and her husband Russell had a WW II romance and were later married at Kelly Air Field in San Antonio, Texas. She became a citizen in 1960. She was a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Churches in Ohio, Chicago, Atlanta and New York. Most recently, she was a member of Trinity Presbyterian Church in Hendersonville where she had served as a deacon. Her family remembers her as tenderhearted, kind and loving person who always saw the very best in others. She was a great supporter of the down and out, whether it was a stray animal, a local homeless person or a mission group needing support. She is remembered as always helping others. Her love for the Lord Jesus Christ was evident in all of her behavior. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Russell; her brothers George, Martin, Reimer and Alf Pederson and her grandson, Robert White. She is survived by her daughters, Barbara White of Sarasota, FL and Mary Grajko of Syracuse, NY and by her son, Stephen Lewis of Burnsville, MN; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. The family would like to thank the caregivers at Carolina Village for their kindness and compassion shown to Jordy and to us. A memorial service will be held about two months. Memorial contributions may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church, 900 Blythe St. Hendersonville, NC 28791. To sign the online register book, please visit shulerfuneralhome.com.
