Hong Kyu Kim, 85, of Pusan, South Korea, died Tuesday, April 22, 2008 at the Evergreen Living Home in Leicester.
Born in South Korea, she had lived in the United States for the past 18 years, residing for fifteen years in Los Angeles, CA, and the past three in Western North Carolina.
She was a member of the Korean Baptist Church in Fletcher and attended the Evergreen Seventh-day Adventist Church in Leicester. Halmonie (as she was called by her family) was a renowned hanbok (traditional Korean dress) and kimono designer. She was fiercely devoted to her family and the Christian faith.
She is survived by her loving daughter, Un Sil “Choy” Falvey (owner of Choy’s Flowers) and husband, Tom, of Hendersonville; two daughters and two sons of Korea; grandson, Sean Lee and wife, Stephanie, of Hendersonville; granddaughter, Marlana Lee of Hendersonville; six grandchildren of Korea; great-granddaughter, Kayla Lee of Hendersonville; and two great-grandchildren of Korea.
A memorial service will be held at 5 PM Friday, April 25, 2008 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Pastor Cheol Soo Han will officiate.
