Jack E. Harrelson, 76, of Shumont Rd., Black Mountain, NC died Tuesday, November 9, 2010 at Mission Hospital in Asheville. He was born in Norfolk, VA, but lived most of his life in Savannah, GA. He had been a part-time resident of of Buncombe County since 1986, moving there permantly in 1999. He was a station manager for National Airlines for more than 20 years and later began a landscaping business, Bushwhacker, in Savannah, GA. He was a member of Bat Cave Baptist Church, but also attended Bald Mountain Baptist Church. An avid horse lover, he was a charter member of the Auxiliary Police which later became Chatham Mounted Patrol, for which he served as First Lieutenant, and founding member of the Mustang Club in Savannah, GA. He also raised and trained German Shepherds and began the Savannah Chapter of the German Shepherd Dog Club of America. He retired to the top ot the mountain where he felt closer to God. He is survived in love by his wife, Donna L. Harrelson and his devoted canine companion of more than 11 years, Heidi’s Blue Gretchen. A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Saturday, November 13, at Bald Mountain Baptist Church on Highway 9 and Shumont Rd. in Black Mountain. Rev. Kenneth Rape and Rev. David MacEachern will officiate.
