Captain James A.G. Davey, Jr. US Navy (Retired), 74, of Hendersonville died Wednesday, July 23, 2014 at Park Ridge Health. He is now freely breathing heavenly air.

Born in Buncombe County, he was the son of the late James A. Garfield Davey, Sr. and Jeannette Crockett Davey. Growing up in Fletcher, Jim attended Henderson County Schools.

In 1956, the family moved to Hendersonville where Jim graduated from Hendersonville High School in 1957. He attended Clemson University, earning a BS degree in 1961, and entered the US Navy in 1962, commissioned as an Ensign, US Naval Reserve, serving two deployments aboard USS Galveston (CLG-3) to Vietnam. After a subsequent tour as a recruiter, Jim graduated from the University of Florida with a Juris Doctorate. He then returned to active duty in the Judge Advocate Generalís Corps, US Navy.

Proudly serving in Charleston, SC, Norfolk, VA, Yokosuka, Japan, and San Francisco, CA, as a military judge, he retired from service in 1989 after a tour as Commanding Officer of the Naval Legal Service Office, Corpus Christi, Texas, at the rank of Captain, Judge Advocate Generalís Corps, US Navy.

Captain Davey then pursued a second career of ten years as a prosecutor for the Florida Bar in Tallahassee, FL, as Assistant Discipline Counsel. After retiring in 2012, he and Darlene returned to the mountains he so dearly loved.

Jim and Darlene attended Hendersonville First Presbyterian Church. His greatest joys in life were his relationship with God, visiting with his family and friends, and pulling for Clemson. He dearly loved all animals, especially his dog, Rusty.

Captain Davey is survived by his loving wife, Darlene Hartzog Davey of Hendersonville; sisters, Dr. Helen Davey of Los Angeles, CA and Jeanne Davey Huckaby and husband, Gary, Sr. of Huntsville, AL; ìBonusî daughter, Kimberly Hartzog Maxwell and husband, Greg, of Hendersonville; nephews, Dr. Gary Huckaby, Jr. and wife, Stacey; John Huckaby and wife, Stephanie; Michael Huckaby and wife, Teresa; and Wes Erb; niece, Shaylene Snyder and husband Bob; brother-in-law, Ken Erb and wife Donna of Hendersonville, and eight great-nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Friday, August 1, 2014 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home.

    Everyone loved Jim! His smile is iridescent, as it will remain in our hearts. What always stuck me the most about Jim, was the way he captivated the respect and admiration of my two brothers. His memory will be cherished by many.
