James Brownlow ìJimmyî Blackwell, III, 63 of Dana, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, February 24, 2010 at Pardee Hospital. A native and lifelong resident of Henderson County, he was the son of the late J.B. Blackwell and Clara Freeman Blackwell. A graduate of East Henderson High School and Warren Wilson College, he taught the 8th grade at Hendersonville Middle School for 28 years, retiring in 2002.

He was a US Navy Seabee serving in the Vietnam War, and a member of Grace Lutheran Church. He was an avid reader and a fitness enthusiast.

Surviving is his wife of 40 years, Terry Barnette Blackwell; his son Jason G. Blackwell; his brother Joel Blackwell and wife Connie; and several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial service will be held at 4:00pm on Sunday, February 28, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church. Rev. Ken Langsdorf will officiate. A reception will be held following the service at the church.
