James Y. Griggs, M.D., 87, of Hendersonville, died Sunday, February 17, 2008.
He was born in Asheville and was a prior resident of St. Louis, MO before moving to Hendersonville in 2006. He was a graduate of Mars Hill College and earned his Medical degree at Bowman-Gray School of Medicine. He practiced surgery in St. Louis, Mo. He served with the U.S. Navy as a Lt. Cmdr. and was stationed in the Panama and San Diego, CA. He was a member of the St. Louis Rotary Club, was an avid golfer and loved giving out newspapers on Old News Boys Day in St. Louis.
He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jo; one daughter, Judith Ann Renfro, of Enka; grandson, Eric Ryan Renfro, of Yorktown, VA; great-grandson, Jeremy Ryan Renfro; one brother, Clarence E. Griggs, of Hendersonville; nieces and nephews.
Funeral will be 2:00p.m., Wednesday, February 20, 2008 in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. The Reverend Jim Hayes will officiate. Interment will follow in the Lewis Memorial Park, Asheville. The family will receive friends 6:30-8:00p.m., Tuesday at Shuler Funeral Home.
