James H. Pitts, Jr., 89 of Asheville died Friday, January 1, 2010 at the Charles George VA Medical Center. Born in Pelham, Georgia he was a son of the late James H. Pitts, Sr. and Lillie Alger Pitts.

He was a US Navy veteran of World War II and a graduate of UNC Chapel Hill. He worked for several years with the NC Board of Paroles and retired in 1977 from the Dept. of Human Resources where he was a confinement specialist. He enjoyed automobiles, gardening, metal detecting, and treasure hunting.

Surviving is his wife of 63 years, Fayellen Fullam Pitts; one daughter Linda Faye Pitts; one son James David Pitts; one granddaughter Amanda Pitts and many nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm on Monday, in the Kirby Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Rev. Allen Raines will officiate. Burial will be private. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service.
