Jean LeFever Hough (82), Died on May 1, 2017 at The Elizabeth House in Flat Rock, NC.

Jean was preceded by her parents Fredrick E. Barber and Dorothy Robedee Barber, her daughter, Linda J. LeFever, a son Matthew R. LeFever, a grandson Joshua L. Wertheim, and her husband of 25 years, Thomas A. Hough.

Jean was born in Syracuse, NY and grew up in Central Square, NY. She was a graduate of Paul V. Moore High School in 1952. She received a Bachelor of Science degree in Biology and a Master of Science degree in Counseling Psychology from the State University of New York in Oswego. She taught Biology for the Central Square School District and later was employed as a high school counselor for the North Central Syracuse Central School District for 20 years. The final six of those years she was Guidance Chairperson.

Jean and her husband Tom retired in 1990 and moved to North Carolina. She was a member of the Art League of Henderson County serving as gallery chairperson, secretary, and in 2001 as president. She was an oil painter and art was her passion in her retirement years. Her work sold in many galleries. She was also a member of the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship.

Jean is survived by a son, Martin A. LeFever of Wilmington, NC. Three grandchildren: Jessica Wertheim of Denham Springs, LA, Isaac LeFever of Seattle, WA, and Gavin LeFever of Durham, NC. Two great grandchildren: Ellie-Jean Ferrante of Denham Springs, LA, and Samuel Wertheim of Pittsburgh, PA.
