Joan Dale DeWeese Matthews,77, formerly of Etowah, NC, went home to be with the Lord on Monday January 23, 2017 after a long battle with Dementia.
She was a daughter of the late Arlo and Elizabeth DeWeese. She is also preceded in death by her husband, Wendell Matthews and a brother, Richard DeWeese.
She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother who devoted her entire life to her family. She was a member of Etowah Baptist Church.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Jessica Smith, her faithful caretaker and the many nurses and caregivers of Hospice and the many friends who helped along this journey.
She is survived by a daughter, Lisa Batson (Scott); a son, Keith Matthews (Michele); grandchildren, Jeremy Hutchins, Cory Hutchins-Payne (Stephanie), Adam Matthews, Hannah Matthews and Alexandria Batson; a great-granddaughter, Khloe Hutchins; a brother, Dennis DeWeese (Jeanie) and a sister, Janet Hampton (Paul).
A grave side memorial service will be conducted by the family at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 2:00 pm Saturday, February 11, 2017.

    We are sorry to learn of the death of Joan. I especially remember her going to Charlotte to check Samaritan's Purse shoe boxes with her good friend Elease Landreth and seeing the two of them sitting together at church. She was also a good Eade Road neighbor.
