Johann William “John” Rorich, 89, of Hendersonville, NC passed away Sunday, August 19, 2018 at Park Ridge Hospital.
Born in Battle Creek, MI, he was a son of the late Dr. Johann Rorich and Dr. Wilma Weeks Rorich. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Esther Rorich, and stepson, Douglas Everson.
Before moving to Hendersonville 25 years ago, John had resided in Indiana. He attended Michigan State University and served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. John was privileged to travel to Washington, DC to visit the Korean War Memorial with the Honor Flight team. The majority of his career was in the beer distribution business which he loved and enjoyed. He was a member of Etowah United Methodist Church.
John was well-known for his happy spirit and ready smile. He loved playing golf and tennis, downhill skiing and swimming. Most of all “Bumpa” loved his grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Dorie Rorich; step-daughter, Peggy Negus (Greg) of Greenville, SC; grandchildren, Olivia and Jackson Negus; brother, Robert (Marion) Rorich of Manistee, MI; nieces, Stephanie (Brian) Slawnik of Traverse City, MI, and Sarah (Rich) Pruszynski of Milwaukee, WI; sister-in-law, Del (George) Rogers of Livonia, MI; several nieces and nephews; and many life-long and current friends.
John lived life, seeing it as wonderful, beautiful and fun, and he made it so for everyone with whom he came in contact. He was at his happiest being Bumpa to Olivia and Jack; took great joy in his years of teaching very young children to swim; driving the church bus to camp full of happy kids; keeping contact with friends of 80 years; and sailing with a friend. Most of all, he loved traveling through life with Dorie.
