Gifts & Memorial Donations

John Mark Crowe, 46, of Fletcher was taken too soon on Monday, August 1, 2011 in Asheville, as a result of an accident. He was born in Baldwin County, Alabama a son of Iris Yates Crowe of Robertsdale, Alabama and the late Billy Carl Crowe. He had lived most of his life in the Buncombe/Henderson area. He had worked previously for the Town of Weaverville and for the Reems Creek Valley Nursery and was currently a Crew Leader for the Metropolitan Sewerage District of Buncombe County.

He was an avid outdoorsman, and enjoyed hiking, kayaking, traveling, and using his hands to help others. A member of Fruitland Baptist Church, he was active in the NC Baptist Menís Building Ministry and Disaster Relief Ministry. John was a selfless man who had a big heart. He gave tirelessly of himself, never asking anything in return. The first person to step up when there was work to be done, he was a man of few words with a passion for building and volunteering.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife of almost 18 years, Susan Prater-Hensley Crowe who was his soul mate and best friend; a sister Carole Crowe Schaff and husband Geoffrey of Robertsdale, Ala.; his mother-in-law Janet Hooper and her husband Wayne of Fletcher; his father-in-law Michael J. Prater and wife Carolyn of Georgia; brother-in-law Philip Hensley and wife Artesia and their daughter Teah of Fletcher; extended family, Joel and Rennay Rudolph and their son Grant Reeves of Mills River and Wayne and Amy Walden and their children Abbey, Anna Lee, and Issac of Hendersonville.

A graveside service will be held at 11am Saturday at Fruitland Cemetery. Rev. Michael Smith will officiate. A Celebration of Life will be held immediately following the service from noon until 2:00pm in the fellowship hall of Fruitland Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Memory of John Crowe to the Carolina Baptist Association for the NC Baptist Builders, 601 Hebron St., Hendersonville, NC 28739.

My love, I will miss making memories of us ~ your loving wife Susan.
