Josephine ìJoî Lyda, 74 of Hendersonville, died Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Beystone Health and Rehabilitation following an extended illness. She was an area resident all of her life, a daughter of the late Arthur and Ora Black and a 1955 graduate of Candler High School.
She worked side by side with her husband for 45 years helping run Lawrence Lyda Trucking. She was a member of Piney Mountain Methodist Church in Candler and in her earlier years, she was involved in the Babe Ruth Baseball league and Cub Scouts. She also always enjoyed trips with her best friend, Peggy Snoddy.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Wayne and Grady Black; and a sister Ruth Robertson.
Surviving is her husband of 48 years, Lawrence Lyda; a daughter Sharon Lyda of Missouri; two sons Randall Lyda of Taylorsville, NC and Stephen Lyda and wife Connie of Brevard; two grandchildren Shannon Jackson and husband Reggie of Missouri and Trevor McCall of Brevard; two great-grandchildren Danielle and Michael Plaster of Missouri; and one nephew Joe Black and wife Judy of Texas.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm on Thursday in the Kirby Memorial Chapel of Shuler Funeral Home. Rev. Dan Blackwell will officiate. Burial will follow in Shepherd Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 7:00pm until 9:00pm Wednesday at Shuler Funeral Home.
