After a period of declining health, Kay Pate Mobley went home to be with her Lord and Savior on March 4th, 2017. Kay was born October 1st, 1943 to Reverend W.C. Pate, Sr. and Bernice Ledbetter Pate. Her faith was nurtured in her happy childhood home as one of six children where laughter was never in short supply. Kay graduated from Mt. Pisgah High School and attended Mars Hill College. She married Rex Horton Mobley at the age of 20 in Kershaw, SC and soon found her life’s true calling – being a wife and mother. Her husband, Rex, has often said she treated him like a king and that she was the best mother he has ever seen.
She was a longtime member of Bat Cave Baptist Church where she loved her church family and as a preacher’s kid, always had a special place in her heart for her pastors. Kay loved people and she was an encourager and a prayer warrior. Her motto was “Housework can wait; babies can’t.” She will be truly missed by her family and friends who will cherish the wonderful memories of their time spent with her.
She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, Rex Mobley of Broad River; daughter, Angela Liner and her husband James of Mint Hill; daughter, Amy Lee and her husband Ronnie of Broad River; son, Chris Mobley of Snow Camp; her honorary son, Charles Winskey of Port au Prince, Haiti. Her grandchildren: David Lee, Anna Kathryn Lee, Lauren Liner, Abby Lee, Matthew Liner, Jacob Lee, Olivia Lee, and Jonathon Lee will miss their Me-momma. She is also survived by her sister, Carolyn Faulkenberry of Moorseville, brothers, Reverend Dr. Bill Pate Jr. of Broad River and Ricky Pate and his wife, Regina of Green Creek, along with many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; her sisters, Colleen Horton, Patricia Pate and her sister-in-law, Paulette Padgett.
