After a lifetime of service to others, Laura Etta Blackwell made the transition to her permanent heavenly home on December 14, 2016. She met her Savior and was reunited with her parents Otho and Blanche Hudson Blackwell; her sister, Nora Green and three siblings who died in infancy.

She leaves behind one sister, Pearl Laughter of Edneyville; three brothers, Branch of Concord, CA, Harley and wife Frances of Hendersonville and Ken of East Flat Rock. She had no children but loved her 5 nieces and 6 nephews; 15 great-nieces and nephews and 14 great great nieces and nephews very much.

She graduated from Edneyville High School, received he RN degree from Spartanburg General Hospital and her Respiratory Therapy degree from Emory University, where she taught until retirement. She previously worked for the VA, Dr. B.J. Romeo, Pardee Hospital, Memorial Mission Hospital and Moses H. Cone Hospital, where she helped develop the first recovery room dedicated exclusively to post-op recovery. Her loving dedication to her family and friends and the thousands of patients will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.

A memorial service will be held 2:00pm Saturday, December 17, at Dana United Methodist Church. Dr. Mark Ralls and Rev. Sarah Fouts will officiate. The family will receive guests at the church following the service. Burial services will be private. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Dana United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, P.O. Box 335, Dana, NC 28724.
